■ Following the assignment of HRI as Master Developer and Woodward Design+Build as the builder, Mathes Brierre was hired to design the Marine Forces Reserve Headquarters building. Because of the very tight project schedule, due to a year lost following Hurricane Katrina, Mathes Brierre Architects was given the challenge of designing the building using tilt-wall technology, a system normally associated with simple and quick warehouse construction. Working closely with the tilt-wall contractor and Woodward Design+Build, the Architects embraced the system and were able to utilize brick elements and applied shapes to achieve a composition befitting the very important mission of the Marine Reserves.
